TIP #1: Buy generic label groceries
Most of us grew up on generic brand groceries and as adult stopped when we moved out on our own. Even if that’s not the case, truthfully, there is very little difference between name-brand and generic labels in the grocery store. Often times, you are paying for great marketing when buying brand named groceries-not necessarily a higher quality.
This month, try shifting your mindset towards generic brands. Try buying generic brand boxes of pasta, cheese, seasoning, cleaning products, canned vegetables and over-the-counter medicines.
TIP #2. Stop wasting food
Answer honestly: how many times have you gone to the grocery store, restocked the fridge and pantry, and then 2 days later, you’re eating out for lunch or dinner?
Okay, if you had to guess, what percentage of the groceries you buy end up uneaten and tossed in the trash? According to a study by the Natural Resources Defense Center, the average American family of four throws away almost 50% of the food they purchase, resulting in an annual loss up to $2,275.
This month, shift the way you think about grocery shopping. Try shopping weekly & map out what you are going to COOK weekly. Purchase only the ingredients for that week and then ONLY eat what you bought from
TIP #3: Stop Emotional Spending
Raise your hand if you love #retailthreapy 🙋🏽♀️. But when you’re on a healthy spending plan, emotional spending can really derail your monthly goals.
I mean, do you really want to spend $100 on a pair of shoes that will be marked down in a few months when the season changes because you had a rough day??
This month, say no to emotional spending and wait for the end of season sales. This is a great way to stay on track and if you’re patient, you’ll be rewarded with huge price cuts on those special items you’ve been wanting.
TIP #4: Dine Out Differently
Dining out is one of my favorite girls night activities, but it sure can empty a wallet fast. Most restaurants offer a robust lunch and happy hour menu. This month, try eating at your favorite restaurant during lunch time or happy hour to save money.
Dining with friends? Order family style, share the food and the bill 😉
TIP #5: Cut The Cable Cord
Listen, watching TV these days shouldn’t break the bank. Switching from cable to monthly streaming subscriptions could save you between $50-$200 a month! Love football? Subscribe to NFL Season Ticket and then cancel your subscription when the season is over. Love HGTV? Stream it through Discovery Plus or YouTube TV.
You may be thinking, you don’t want to watch TV from your phone/laptops. Did you know that most Smart TVs have an option to connect directly to the streaming app. If you don’t have a Smart TV, you can try streaming from your phone a cast it to your TV. This month, contact your cable company and tell them you’re cutting the cord ✂️
TIP #6: Go Thrifting
Did you know that consignment shops are full of deals on barely-used clothing that could save you tons of money on your wardrobe. If you have never considered thrift shopping because you’re afraid the quality won’t be up-to-par, give it a chance.
This month, try thrifting. Certain thrift stores in different neighborhoods are quite picky about the items they accept, so you may just might be surprised at the hidden gems you find.
TIP #7: Don’t Spend It, Save It!
If you implement at least one of these tips from #hellobreakthrough, you’ll see some immediate savings. The more tips you implement, the more you’ll save which will be exciting. It will be tempting to take your savings and buy something, pay off debt, or even reinvest it.
This month, shift the way you think about saving. Open a savings account if you don’t have one already and store your savings there. Remember the quickest way to save
